Justin Simmons says he’s ‘playing the long game’ as a free agent

The Denver Broncos parted ways with star safety Justin Simmons this past spring to save salary cap space . Simmons, who earned four Pro Bowls and two All-Pro nods during his eight seasons with Denver, is still a free agent despite his accomplishments with the orange and blue.

Despite the slowing market for him, Simmons has implied that he isn’t going to rush the process. He seeks to play the long game for the right fit with a team instead of going for a quick cash grab with a need for an impact safety. His No. 1 priority? Playing for a contending team.

“We’re just playing the long game here. I think ultimately we’re going to end up where we’re wanted and where we’re valued,” Simmons said at a charity golf event last week, via KMGH-TV’s Bradley King . “I’ve always said from the jump that I want to play for a contender, and I feel like I can be the missing piece for a lot of teams to get them over the hump.”

Simmons is only 30, so he should still have a lot left in the tank. As training camp nears, Simmons is willing to wait for the right opportunity.
