DENVER ( KDVR ) — The Mile High City has already seen record-breaking heat this summer, hitting the triple digits three days so far. And historically, the hottest days in Denver are still ahead.

The city hit 100 degrees in late June and broke two heat records in mid-July, reaching 101 and 102 degrees in one weekend. These temperatures came before the average hottest days of the year, which usually land between July 17 and 22 in the city.

Denver weather: Midweek afternoon storms and mild temperatures

While there’s a cooldown in the forecast for this week, Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said there are still about two weeks left where Denver could potentially have another 100-degree day.

Will Denver see 100 degrees again?

One hundred-degree days in Denver aren’t that common and only happen once or twice a year, if at all. That said, this is an uncommon summer that’s been abnormally hot, with Denver having the second-hottest June on record.

While the hottest days are still on the radar, Michels believes the extreme heat is over.

The forecast for the next seven days shows temperatures in the 80s and low 90s. For Denver to reach 100 degrees in the next two weeks, the city would need a serious warmup.

After two weeks, August will be here, and Denver rarely hits 100 degrees in August and September, although Michels said it’s not impossible.

Based on National Weather Service records, Denver normally hits 100 degrees in June and mainly July, but there have been cases where Denver reaches 100 degrees as late as Sept. 5, which occurred in 2020.

While it’s too soon to tell what the rest of the summer holds temperature-wise, Michels believes July 12 was the last 100-degree day of the year.
