DENVER ( KDVR ) — A triathlon on Saturday could cause traffic headaches around the Boulder Reservoir.
The Tri Boulder triathlon is scheduled to begin at 7:15 a.m. with cyclists hitting the pavement at about 7:25 a.m. The last cyclists to leave the reservoir will be at approximately 8:30 a.m., and organizers anticipate the last cyclists will be off the road by 12:30 p.m.
Riders are also going to be riding single-file and be spread out. A sweep vehicle will follow the last cyclists and alert course marshals and police along the way, so traffic will be able to return to normal as quickly as possible.
Motorists are allowed to pass bicyclists but must allow at least three feet of space between their vehicle and the bicyclist. Drivers are also allowed to cross a double yellow center line to provide bicyclists extra room if the oncoming traffic lane is clear.
What roads will be impacted by Tri Boulder
Westbound Jay Road will be closed Saturday from Highway 119/Diagonal Highway to 51st Street from 7:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
All other impacted roads will remain open for drivers throughout the event. This includes eastbound Jay Road from 51st Street to Diagonal Highway.
Motorists are asked to pay close attention to Boulder County Sheriff’s Office deputies in the area and the volunteer traffic marshals who will be ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
