Colorado outdoor retail equipment show goes off the beaten path

TELLER COUNTY, Colo. ( KDVR ) — When you think of an outdoor retail equipment show, the Colorado Convention Center usually comes to mind; however, that is not the case for this unusual equipment show.

This show was held outdoors in the Colorado mountains and simply called “Summer Camp.”

“Summer Camp is an event that we host for our clients in the outdoor active lifestyle space where we bring together press in a very intimate environment,” said Rachel Popp, Big Fish Collective CEO.

It doesn’t get more intimate than Summer Camp — outdoor gear being tested in the outdoors. Cooking, clothing and camping in style, all while being tested by industry writers from around the country.

“We have media out into the wild testing gear, getting their hands dirty,“ said Popp.

Kelty, Camp Chef, Altra Shoes and many other national gear companies sent their products to Summer Camp to be literally dragged through the mud. Travel trailers by Taxa Outdoors, clothes by Stio and camp kitchens by Camp Chef were just a few of the products at the outdoor show.

“Today we’re cooking on our Pro 14 stove which is a two-burner stove. It’s got two 30,000 BTU burners. This is my favorite stove because it’s 100% modular,“ said Brooks Hansen from Camp Chef.
