Nuggets Pick Up Former MVP In A Shocking Move

The Clippers have made another move, dealing Russell Westbrook to the Utah Jazz in a sign and trade. The Jazz send Kris Dunn to LA for Westbrook and a future 2nd-round pick swap. Dunn signs with the Clippers on a 3-year, $17 million deal. Utah has bought out Westbrook, who will subsequently sign with the Denver Nuggets.
How Significant Is This For Denver?
The general narrative surrounding Russell Westbrook for the last few seasons is that he is not a good fit on most NBA teams. This is due to his lack of shooting efficiency and decreasing athleticism, which once made him one of the best players in the entire league.
However, with Denver, there's certainly reason to believe this will be an excellent fit. The 35-year-old replaces Reggie Jackson on the Nuggets as the backup point guard, an obvious upgrade. Having Westbrook play the Jamal Murray bench minutes will be perfect for Denver, and everything points to Russ being a great fit with Nikola Jokic.
While he doesn't replace the 3&D play of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, his energy and playmaking will be valued in the mountains.
Clippers Get Another Point Guard
Kris Dunn was decent for Utah last season, but probably won't play more than 15 minutes a night. The Clippers have James Harden, Bones Hyland, Terrance Mann, Norman Powell, and Kevin Porter Jr as guards.
Dunn is on a team-friendly deal, so it doesn't hurt the Clippers, but they don't gain much from it this season.
Utah Add More Draft Capital
This will mark the second time the Jazz have been involved in a Russell Westbrook trade. They were involved in the deal to get him to the Lakers, where they also bought out his contract.
They get a second-round pick swap in this deal as they stockpile whatever assets they can get for the future.
