The abrupt closure of a popular local taco chain’s Edgewater location has left several patrons puzzled.

According to a post on Reddit , Cochino Taco at Edgewater Public Market closed abruptly on Sunday, without advance notice to customers via social channels or signage at the restaurant.

Users drew a comparison with a similar instance a year ago when Cochino Taco abruptly closed its location at 176 S. Broadway.

“They closed the one on Broadway fast, so that must be a feature of their operating model,” Reddit user “zeddy303” quipped.

An employee of the restaurant, who chose to remain anonymous, says that employees were notified of the Edgewater location’s closing, but could not provide further details.

Cochino Taco’s Arvada and Englewood locations remain open.

The Denver Gazette reached out to the restaurants’ management but did not receive a response at the time of publication.

Despite the apparent downsizing, Cochino Taco remains a popular option amongst taco enthusiasts in the Denver area. The restaurant survived the initial elimination round in the Denver Gazette’s 2024 Taco Tournament bracket , before bowing out in the Round of 16.

The popular spot has built a strong reputation for its unique and flavorful offerings.

Highlights from the menu include the Cochino Elote , a dish featuring fresh corn rubbed with serrano aioli and lime, topped with cotija cheese, tajin, and fresh cilantro, and the Mas Macho Burrito , which offers a choice of ground beef, barbacoa, carne asada, carnitas, chicken tinga, lengua, or chorizo, smothered in house green chile and topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, and Mexican crema.

The restaurants also gained popularity for their dog-friendly patios and daily happy hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

However, if the recent history of sudden closures is any indicator, customers might want to visit the remaining locations while they still can.
