ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — The period for acclimation is over for the Denver Broncos. Training camp is almost here.

“Right now, everyone is excited because camp just started,” defensive lineman Zach Allen said after the conclusion of two days of acclimation workouts Thursday.

The 2024 Broncos training camp and the arrival of fans will begin Friday.

“When (the fans) bring the energy it really helps,” Allen said.

That boost will start in earnest as 90 players try to impress the Broncos coaching staff in an effort to make the squad.

“We have everybody on board, we have 100% buy-in,” Allen said.

Training camp will feature heavy competition for nearly every position for the young Denver team.

“It’s going to be real intense, and that is the way you want it to be,” running back Javonte Williams said. “It’s about being the best. And if we follow that goal we will all get better.”

Coach Payton at Broncos training camp: ‘We expect to win’

Second-year head coach Sean Payton is expecting his team to be more familiar with his system and expects practices to be quicker-paced this season. That includes Monday’s practice when the team will be in full pads.

Off the field, wide receiver Courtland Sutton and the Broncos agreed on adjusting his 2024 contract, which will allow for $1.5 million in potential incentives. His deal will include a $13 million base salary. He is under contract through 2025.

“It’s good to have him back out here,” Payton said about the Pro Bowler. “He brings leadership and a skill set that we like.”

    Extra Points

    • Javonte Williams has been praised for his conditioning by head coach Sean Payton. Williams said he is down 11 pounds, checking in at 221 at the start of training camp. His secret: not eating after 7 p.m. and cutting out all snacks.
    • Rookie quarterback Bo Nix took the first reps in Thursday’s acclimation practice. Payton said there would be a rotation early on between Nix, Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson.
    • The Broncos will be looking for depth at the safety position behind veterans Brandon Jones and P.J. Locke. Payton said he is encouraged by the young players competing, specifically mentioning Caden Sterns and JL Skinner.

The Broncos’ first preseason games will take place Aug. 11 on the road against the Indianapolis Colts.
