DENVER ( KDVR ) — Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre is getting greener with reusable cups.

On Tuesday, Denver Arts and Venues , the agency responsible for operating Red Rocks, posted about the new cups on X. They are known as r.Cups and are designed to be used, collected, sanitized and reused again and again.

The reusable cups are part of Red Rocks’ commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

“Adopting reusables reduces the strain of resource consumption since a single cup can be used hundreds of times,” said Denver Arts and Venues.

With this latest addition, FOX31 reached out to Denver Arts and Venues to learn more about how these reusable cups will work.

How will these cups be sanitized and reused from show to show?

According to a spokesperson with Denver Arts and Venues, the r.Cups are made of polypropylene plastic and are BPA-free, food-safe and durable.

At the end of the show, guests can return their r.Cup to any of the onsite recycling bins. From there, Red Rocks staff will sort all the waste to ensure the cups and other reusable and recyclable materials are separated from landfill.

r.World , the company behind r.Cups, is then responsible for collecting and sanitizing the cups, according to Denver Arts and Venues. The Denver-based “wash hub” will sustainably sanitize the cups.

Denver Arts and Venues said r.World will also use an AI-robotic quality assurance system to ensure the cups are fully sanitized and ready for reuse.

Can I take the cup home as a souvenir?

Denver Arts and Venues asks that guests return the cups once they are finished.

What’s new at Red Rocks in 2024?

They compared it to glassware at a restaurant.

“Just like using traditional glassware in a bar, r.Cups are designed to be used over and over again. The success of this program depends upon patrons returning r.Cups so they can be reused,” said Denver Arts and Venues.

Right now, the r.Cups are being used just for craft beer and non-alcoholic drinks at Red Rocks.

The reusable cups have already been introduced at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre and are launching at the Buell Theatre, as well.
