A behind-the-scenes look at Broncos training camp practice Friday with observations, analysis and photos from The Denver Gazette.

    Play of the day

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix elicited arguably the biggest cheer of the day with his first completion of a 7-on-7 period. He hit wide receiver Michael Bandy on a crossing route, and he turned upfield for a big gain. Nix also received a warm fan welcome during team stretches.

    QB watch

The Broncos continued their same three-quarterback rotation that began in the team's acclimation period to training camp. Zach Wilson played with the first-team offense. Jarrett Stidham was the second-team QB. Nix rounded out the third group. It is Stidham's scheduled turn with the first team on Saturday.

    Stock rising

Defense — It's difficult to truly judge without pads. But a general lack of explosive downfield plays in term periods signaled that the defense won the day. They did not give any deep completions over the top.

    Stock falling

QB Zach Wilson — Let's not overreact. It's just Day 1 of training camp. But Wilson didn't turn heads in his opportunity to lead the first-team offense. He completed several nice throws over the middle.

    Attendance check

All Broncos on the active training camp roster were in attendance Friday.

    Injury report

Safety Brandon Jones tweaked his hamstring and is being evaluated, coach Sean Payton said. Linebacker Nik Bonitto and guard Nick Gargiulo were in attendance but did not participate with the team. Bonitto is expected to practice Saturday, Payton said.

    What’s next

The team's second training camp practice starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Broncos Park. The team does not practice on Sunday.

    Ticket information

Fans can reserve up to four free tickets — on a first-come, first-served basis — online at Ticketmaster.com. Several practices are completely sold out.
