A man jumped to his death from an upper floor of a Denver courthouse Thursday morning, injuring two, according to the Denver Police Department.

The incident occurred in the Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse, 520 W. Colfax Ave., which closed Thursday immediately afterward.

It was reported at 8:07 a.m. on Thursday and Denver police said they believe the man jumped, according to a spokesperson.

DPD posted on social media platform X at 9:21 a.m . that it was investigating and that two other people were injured in the incident and transported to the hospital.

The Denver Gazette confirmed the identity of the man as Thomas Stilson, 67. Stilson, out on a $75,000 bond, was being tried on multiple serious felonies in the fifth-floor courtroom of Second District Judge Ericka F.H. Englert, according to court records.

"It's very shocking," said his attorney Charles Greenwood. "All we had left was closing arguments."

Greenwood said, after discussions with jurors before they were dismissed, that Stilson would have been found not guilty on the most serious charges.

Officials said the injured people suffered only minor injuries.

All proceedings and services were canceled at the Lindsey-Flanigan courthouse Thursday, according to an X post from the Denver Sheriff's Department.

According to an official familiar with the investigation, but not authorized to speak publicly, the man who jumped apparently hit a security guard, who was taken away in a wheelchair and neck brace.

Denver Sheriff's Department officials declined to comment and deferred all questions to Denver police.

The Denver Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy and notify family.
