(COLORADO) — The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will be hosting its annual Missing in Colorado event to give family and friends of missing persons access to resources and support.

According to CBI, there are 1,278 active missing persons in Colorado. Many will be reunited with their families within a few days, weeks, and months of the dates they went missing, however nearly half will remain missing for more than a year. Others remain missing for years even decades.

The event takes place on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lowry Conference Center located at 1061 Akron Way in Denver. The event will offer resources for impacted families, give attendees the opportunity to meet with investigators, share information such as photos, dental records, DNA, and more, and enter information about their loved ones into the national missing person database.

There will be a family support luncheon held at 1 p.m. on Saturday giving families the chance to to speak with co-victims and victim advocates.

“Building on the success of last year’s event, the CBI team is committed to ensuring the families of the missing have access to the latest information and tools to help them as they navigate through this devastating chapter in their lives,” said CBI Director Chris Schaefer. “We ask all Coloradans to aid in the effort to give a voice to the missing by reviewing the CBI Cold Case Database and the Missing Persons Resource Page , and share any information that may lead to resolution in these critically important cases.”

There will also be a private family support group held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. CBI said space is limited and reservations are encouraged. Those interested can contact Investigative Analyst Audrey Simkins at (303) 239-5764 or Investigative Analyst Melissa McGaw at (303) 239-4227.
