The Avalanche increased their defensive depth by signing Oliver Kylington to a one-year contract for $1.05 million on Aug. 5.

The Stockholm, Sweden native was drafted in 2015 by Calgary in the second round (60th overall). He has a career 55 points in 201 games played with the Flames. He earned three points in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games and had a career-high 31 points in the 2021-22 season.

The 27-year-old earned eight points in 33 games with the Calgary Flames in the 2023-24 season. He missed the entire 2022-23 season due to personal reasons.

According to The Hockey News, the defenseman needed time to work on his mental health in order to continue his professional hockey career.

“I don’t know if I’ve helped people, but I hope maybe that helps people to understand that when there’s certain moments in life, when there’s adversity, that it’s okay to be in it and not flee from it and not do stuff to think that it’s just gonna vanish,” Kylington said at the end of last season .

The 6-foot blue liner notched 91 points in 192 American Hockey League games with the Stockton Heat and Calgary Wranglers.
