DENVER ( KDVR ) — Picking a place to live, raise a family and grow your career can be a daunting task, and safety is a top factor in choosing that neighborhood.

The concept of safety can be measured by rates of violent crime, property crime, motor vehicle deaths, drug overdose deaths and excessive drinking, among others. SmartAsset , a personal finance website, looked at 360 U.S. suburbs and ranked them from most to least safe based on those five measures.

There are thousands of suburbs in the United States that homebuyers can choose from, but SmartAsset looked at 360 neighborhoods within a 15 to 45-minute drive from the 100 largest U.S. cities.

Study: Colorado one of the least safe states in US

Six Colorado cities made the list, but only one suburb was ranked among the top 50.

Broomfield made it in the top half of the list, but it had one of the worst percentages of adults who engaged in excessive drinking. According to the data, 22.2% of adults engaged in excessive drinking, ranking 12th. On the other hand, the city had among the lowest motor vehicle deaths per 100,000 residents with an average of 4.31.
