DeRidder High School Principal Sammy Smith recently attended the National School Leaders Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. — along with four other members of the Louisiana Association of Principals.

While there, they were able to attend training sessions dealing with many legislative issues pertaining to education — such as school safety, mental health, violence prevention and the educator shortage.

Smith and the other delegates were able to meet in U.S. Speaker Mike Johnson’s office with Congresswoman Juila Letlow, and representatives from the offices of U.S. Congressmen Clay Higgins, Troy Carter, Garret Graves, Johnson, and U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy to advocate on education issues and the many legislative acts and funding bills coming up for vote.
