In 2023, the Chiefs’ wide receivers might have been just part of the problem
The Kansas City Chiefs made significant changes to their wide receiver group for the 2024 season, yet the more critical shift may lie in their approach post-2023. ESPN's Bill Barnwell noted that despite their Super Bowl victory, the Chiefs struggled with turnover margin, losing the turnover battle in nine games last season. Historical data highlights the team's remarkable resilience prior to 2023, winning 15 out of 26 games with a negative turnover margin. Barnwell suggests that bad luck with fumbles and a poor drop rate (7.8%) from receivers contributed to their inconsistent performance. In contrast, the team showcased improved drop rates during the playoffs, raising questions about the influence of Patrick Mahomes' performance on the receivers’ success.
