Des Moines University has partnered with the Illinois-based Benedictine University to offer more access to students seeking medical careers.

The medical university announced Monday that it would offer guaranteed interviews, reserved seats in certain programs and concurrent degrees to Benedictine University graduates, effective immediately. Benedictine University is a private, Catholic college with locations in Lisle, Illinois, and Mesa, Arizona.

“DMU and Benedictine University share a common goal of creating opportunities for academically promising students and producing well-prepared professionals for medical and health science careers,” said Molly Moeller, Des Moines University senior director of admissions, in a news release. “These professionals are essential as they serve others and enhance our quality of life. DMU is thrilled to partner with BenU to open doors for these aspiring students.”

Benedictine University graduates going into the medicine and health sciences field will have guaranteed interviews for roles in various Des Moines University areas of study, including the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Doctor of Biomedical Sciences programs.

Des Moines University will also reserve two seats each year for Benedictine University students in its Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Doctor of Occupational Therapy programs, according to the release. Students will be selected based on their academic excellence, experiences and recommendations from Benedictine University faculty.

Students must meet Des Moines University admissions requirements to qualify for the guaranteed interviews and reserved seats, according to the release.

For all undergraduate students and graduate students in Benedictine University’s Master of Science in Integrative Physiology, Des Moines University will allow them to simultaneously earn credits in their main area of study and select graduate programs, such as the Doctor of Occupational Therapy and Master of Health Care Administration.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to academic excellence and establishing pathways to help students achieve their academic and professional goals,” said Joseph Foy, president of Benedictine University, in the release. “By offering guaranteed interview spots, concurrent degree options and reserved seats in DMU’s prestigious programs, we are equipping our students with the skills and opportunities necessary to become future leaders in health care.”
