Mariah Myers, Max Gast voted the Register's Iowa Ortho Athlete of the Week winners

Fort Dodge St. Edmond softball player Mariah Myers and Osage baseball player Max Gast were voted the Des Moines Register's Iowa Ortho female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of June 17-23.

Myers won female Athlete of the Week with 59% of the vote. Ballard softball player Madeline Schonhorst came in second with 39%.

Myers connected for three home runs during the St. Edmond softball team's 12-1 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden in five innings on June 19.

Myers finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk. She scored three times and drove in four runs.

Gast was voted male Athlete of the Week with 64% of the vote. Pleasant Valley baseball player Lincoln Dalton and West Delaware baseball player Brent Yonkovic tied for second after they each received 13%.

Gast was a strikeout machine on the mound for the Osage baseball team during a 13-0 victory over North Butler on June 19.

Gast retired 18 of the 24 batters he faced on strikes. He gave up one hit and two walks in seven innings to earn the shutout victory.
