    Motorcyclist’s death is fifth of the year for Des Moines

    DES MOINES, Iowa — A motorcycle crash took the life a man early Saturday morning in Des Moines.

    Des Moines police officers were called to the 1800 block of 2nd Avenue around 2:00am Saturday. Once they arrived on scene they found a 24 year-old male motorcyclist in the road. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was traveling on a 2003 Honda motorcycle at a high rate of speed in the southbound lane on 2nd Avenue. As the motorcyclist quickly approached another southbound vehicle the motorcyle went down on the roadway and crashed into a 2018 Chevy Impala traveling northbound on 2nd Avenue. Investigators say the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. The crash occured in a construction zone.

    The victim’s names has not been released. This is the city’s tenth fatal crash and fifth fatality involving a motorcycle in 2024.
