DES MOINES, Iowa — A spokesperson for the Des Moines International Airport said the airport’s systems are back up after a Microsoft system outage grounded flights across the globe Friday morning.

Around midnight, a Microsoft system outage impacted airports across the globe, causing flights to be grounded. Impacted airlines include United, Allegiant, Delta, and American.

Airlines were unable to check passengers into flights and couldn’t take their baggage. Long lines started to accumulate at the Des Moines International Airport. In previous reporting , the regional spokesperson for the TSA, Jessica Mayle, said every Friday during the summer is expected to be busy. She also said that the busiest hours at the Des Moines International Airport are between 5 AM and 8 AM.

The assistant executive director for the airport said their employees worked overnight to fix the issue and around 6:30 AM, their systems were back up. At that time, United Airlines and Allegiant Airlines were still experiencing network outages. He said it was likely because not all airports fixed their system at that time.

According to the airport, people traveling through the Des Moines International Airport should check the status of their flights on their website .
