DMPD investigating eleventh traffic-related fatality Saturday night

DES MOINES, IOWA — On Saturday night, the Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit responded to the city’s eleventh traffic-related fatality of 2024.

The call came in at 8:03 p.m., with Des Moines Police officers and Des Moines Fire Department personnel responding to a crash with injuries at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Holcomb Avenue.

Once on the scene, first responders found multiple victims injured and one person deceased at the scene, who was identified as an adult female.

DMFD medics transported two adults and two juveniles to local hospitals with serious injuries. The 2nd Avenue bridge was shut down for a while as the investigation began. Police say that 2nd Avenue, both northbound and southbound lanes, is closed temporarily from Hull to Franklin Avenue. The closure is expected to last three hours.

The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the crash and will provide more information as it becomes available.
