    Part of the northeast mixmaster is closing Tuesday night. See the Iowa DOT's detour

    Be aware of nighttime construction happening near the northeast mixmaster in Des Moines on Tuesday evening, as parts of the interchange for Interstates 35, 80 and 235 will be closed by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

    When will the Des Moines mixmaster be closed on Tuesday?

    Weather permitting, on Tuesday night, July 23, crews will close eastbound and northbound I-235 onto northbound I-35 so that crews can pour concrete for the new bridge deck at the mixmaster.

    The closure is expected to start at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23 and will end around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24.

    When the interchange is closed, drivers will follow a marked detour route that begins by taking the ramp from I-235 onto I-35/I-80 heading west, taking the first exit at NE 14th Street (U.S. Highway 69), heading back east on I-35/I-80 and then taking the exit to return northbound on I-35.

    Drivers will still be able to exit to eastbound I-80 at the mixmaster. Southbound traffic entering I-235 from I-35 will not be

    The Iowa DOT reminds folks to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.
