    7 things to do in Dallas County this weekend include Pollinator Palooza, Kid's Market

    Pelt Hike

    9-10 a.m. Thursday, July 25 at Kuehn Conservation Area, 32828 Houston Trail, Earlham.

    In this scavenger hunt meets I Spy, come out and walk around the upper area of Kuehn searching for hidden animal furs. Learn about these animals, go at your own pace, and enjoy a summer day at a beautiful park. This is a self-guided hike; a naturalist will be there to get you started and answer questions during the time of the program.

    Pollinator Palooza

    12-3 p.m. Friday, July 26 at The Brenton Arboretum, 25141 260th St., Dallas Center.

    Join The Brenton Arboretum, The Blank Park Zoo and Iowa State as we celebrate pollinators, conservation and the wonderful outdoor world. The Brenton Arboretum is excited to welcome guest Ben White from Blank Park Zoo from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, July 26. Ben will present an interactive class for all ages about what to plant and grow in your yard for all those wonderful bugs, insects, birds and butterflies that are native to our area. Ben will also have a selection of animals from Blank Park Zoo to help with our program. Iowa State will have their Conservation Station set up from 12-3 p.m. Various games and activities will be hosted by The Brenton Arboretum between 12-3 p.m. All programs are free and open to all ages.

    Kid's Market

    5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, July 26 at 5th Quarter Bar & Grill, Van Meter.

    5th Quarter will host its first Kid's Market on Friday, July 26. Youth, 17 and under, will set up their own booths/tables to offer their products to the public. Come out & support our young entrepreneurs!

    Movie in the Park

    8:45 p.m. Friday, July 26 at Island Park Campground, Adel.

    Join Adel Parks and Rec for a free showing of "Wonka" on Friday, July 26 at Island Park Campground. Bring your own lawn chair, blanket, snacks and drinks. Popcorn is provided. The movie begins at sunset.

    Granger Yoga in the Park

    8-9 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at Centennial Park, Granger.

    Join Jessica for Yoga in the Park on the following dates: July 27; Aug. 3, 10 & 17. Bring a towel or yoga mat. Yoga in the Park is a free program that is open to all ages.

    Waukee Yoga in the Park

    8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at Windfield Park, Waukee.

    Join SPENGA for Yoga in the Park on Saturday, July 27! Bring a towel or mat and $5 for admission to get in the flow with certified instructors.

    Mobile Food Pantry

    8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at Crossroads Church, Perry.

    Crossroads Church will host a mobile food pantry from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 27.

    Free Merchant Movies

    11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31 at Perry Grand 3 Theatres.

    The Perry Grand 3 Theatres will continue the 2024 summer movies on Wednesday, July 31 with "Shrek." All movies will be shown at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays through Aug. 7.     Highway 141 Garage Sale

    Aug. 2-3 along Highway 141.

    Care Closet

    9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Aug. 2-3 at Crossroads Church.

    The Crossroads Church Care Closet will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 and Saturday, Aug. 3. Everything is free!

    Van Meter Yoga in the Park

    8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at Trindle Park, Van Meter.

    Van Meter Parks & Recreation is sponsoring yoga this summer. Please note the new location, if we have rain, we can still practice under a shelter. Bring a beach towel or yoga mat and join us as we move our bodies in the outdoors. This practice requires the ability to get up and down off the ground. Yoga in the Park will be held on Aug. 3.

    Woodward Social Center Luncheon

    11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5 at Woodward Social Center.

    The Woodward Social Center will serve a luncheon on Monday, Aug. 5. The menu will include cavatelli, green beans and dessert. A free-will offering will be taken to support the Woodward Public Library.

    Hike to the Mounds

    9-11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Kuehn Conservation Area, 32828 Houston Trail, Earlham.

    Join a Dallas County Conservation Board naturalist on a hike to the Burial Mounds at Kuehn Conservation Area. Learn their story and connection to the land that is now called Kuehn. We'll meet at the back of the park where the mounds are. You can drive to the area, park on the grass, and we'll walk over to the mounds together.

    Back to School Bash

    3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Dallas County Hospital Bistro, ground level south side of building, Perry.

    Dallas County Hospital and Family Medicine Clinics will host a Back to School Bash on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Come and meet some of our newer providers in the clinics while reconnecting with some familiar faces. Scheduling of physical exams for a later date will be encouraged at the event, prior to the school year and athletic seasons commencing. We will also have a representative from Financial Counseling available to describe her services and schedule consultations. Food and other giveaways will be available while supplies last, and a few forms of activities and entertainment will be available to engage patients of all ages.

    Waukee Public Safety Day

    5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Waukee Public Safety Building, 1300 SE L.A. Grant Parkway, Waukee.

    Are you looking for a community event that brings together residents of all ages for an evening of learning and entertainment? Find it at Waukee Public Safety Day on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Get up close and personal with public safety vehicles, including Waukee Police cars, Waukee Fire trucks, Dallas County Sheriff vehicles and more. Bring the whole family to enjoy Safety City fire station/police station, chalk station, tattoo station, scavenger hunt, inflatables, free food and more.

    National Night Out Van Meter

    6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Public Safety Building, 505 Grant St., Van Meter.

    The Van Meter Police and Fire Department will host an open house for National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The event is a perfect opportunity to come out and meet your officers and firefighters for the city of Van Meter. Come take a tour of the station, participate in activities and have a bite to eat. Food trucks will be on site and there will be activities for all ages.

    Forest Management at Kuehn

    6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Kuehn Conservation Area, 32828 Houston Trail, Earlham.

    Dallas County Conservation has been implementing a new forest management plan in Kuehn Conservation Area. Come learn more about the how, what, where, why, and when of habitat management in Kuehn's forests!
