Chinese restaurant specializing in barbecue duck, pork closes 'temporarily' July 29

After 22 years on Second Avenue in Des Moines, a Chinese restaurant “temporarily” closes July 29. Le’s Chinese Bar-B-Que closes, taking its Chinese and Vietnamese specialties with it. But fans of the restaurant can breathe easy; the owners are looking for a new space.

Owners Tri Le and his wife Julie moved to Des Moines from Vietnam in 1992 and opened their Chinese restaurant in 2002. Second Avenue is now under construction with lane shifts. The restaurant offers dishes such as barbecue duck, seen hanging inside a takeout window display in the restaurant, and roasted whole pigs over the years. Fans call the pork some of the best in the city.

Signs on the front door and interior door refer to the closing as “temporary” while the couple looks for a new location on the north side of Des Moines.

“We are looking for a new location and will post it on our Facebook soon. Sorry for the inconvenience,” the signs state.

As of July 25, the couple had not located a new space.
