(KTVZ) – Deschutes County commissioners heard an appeal Wednesday of a hearings officer’s denial of a psilocybin facility at the Juniper Preserve resort northeast of Bend, with much of the debate turning on an unusual issue – whether the resort's access road and a BLM right-of-way granted for it allows the federally illegal, but state-legal substance to be transported on it.

La Pine Man Jailed After Burn Pit Sparks Fire
A La Pine homeless camper was jailed for reckless burning after a burn pit sparked a fire. On July 17, 2024, at approximately 2:12 pm, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a reported fire in La Pine. The fire was reported to be in the forest, just south of the Huntington Meadows subdivision, which is a heavily populated housing subdivision on Huntington Rd.

DCSO Uses Technology Instead Of Pursuits To Track Suspects
BEND, OR -- The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office is finding success using high-tech tools to track suspects. As reported earlier this week, deputies recently arrested a Redmond man and recovered a stolen pickup with the help of the StarChase System. Sgt. Josh Spano says the Sheriff's Office started using StarChase a couple of years ago, as a way to avoid dangerous high-speed pursuits, "And a much less expensive alternative than chasing people through the city or through the county or on the highways."
