NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – United States Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Charvan Morris, age 27, of New Orleans, was indicted on May 23, 2024, on two counts of distributing fentanyl, violating Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(C).

Morris faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $1,000,000, at least three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee for each count.

According to court documents, Morris allegedly distributed fentanyl in the Eastern District of Louisiana on or about February 16 and February 20, 2024.

U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that an indictment is merely an accusation, and the defendant's guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that unites all levels of law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence, aiming to create safer neighborhoods. Launched on May 26, 2021, the Department's violent crime reduction strategy for PSN is grounded in fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting violence prevention through community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
