TAMPA, Fla. — A 24-year-old Florida man, Timothy Bornman, was arrested on Saturday after allegedly causing significant damage to The Mission Church in Palm Bay and assaulting an officer with a Stanley Cup, according to reports.

According to the Palm Bay Police Department's arrest affidavit, Bornman broke into the church shortly before 5:20 p.m., causing thousands of dollars in damage. Prior to the break-in, he entered a shed at the back of the property and retrieved a sledgehammer, which he used to break the church’s front door and proceeded to destroy various items inside.

Officers arrived to find Bornman clad only in shorts, holding a metal Stanley cup, and yelling profanities at church members in the parking lot. When approached by the officers, Bornman threatened them, saying he would "f—k [them] up." He then attempted to strike an officer in the head with the Stanley Cup, hitting the officer's shoulder instead.

Bornman tried to flee but was subdued by a stun gun and, after a brief struggle, was handcuffed. He later admitted to breaking into the church and causing the damage, claiming the church had "stolen everything" from him.

Bornman caused over $10,000 worth of damage, police reported. He was taken to a nearby hospital before being booked into the Brevard County Jail. He faces several charges, including burglary, criminal mischief in a place of worship, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting officers with violence.
