Indianapolis - Dayten Abram, 22, of Muncie, has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release. He pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl, carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime, and distribution of more than 40 grams of fentanyl.

According to court documents, Abram was under investigation by the Muncie Police Department for suspected drug trafficking offenses. On March 16th, 2023, at approximately 1:09 PM, officers stopped Abram's vehicle after he committed multiple traffic violations. An officer approaching the car detected the smell of burnt marijuana and noticed a handgun on the driver’s side floorboard, near a BMV receipt with Abram’s name on it.

A search of the vehicle uncovered $8,749 in cash, a loaded Glock 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, and 1,526 fentanyl pills containing 213.6 grams of the drug. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) states that as little as two milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal. Seven out of ten illegal fentanyl tablets seized from U.S. streets and analyzed by the DEA contain potentially lethal doses. Abram was arrested and initially charged in Delaware County but was later released on bond.

On April 27, 2023, while out on bond for the pending state charges, Abram was recorded by law enforcement dealing another 503 fentanyl pills, containing 54.7 grams of the narcotic. This led to his subsequent federal charges and conviction.
