California man, Tyler Vuong Le, age 28, from Anaheim, was sentenced on June 11, 2024, to more than seven years in federal prison for distributing controlled substances through the mail. Le had pleaded guilty on January 3, 2024, to the charge of distribution of a controlled substance.

In his plea agreement, Le admitted to mailing packages from California to Iowa on multiple occasions. These packages contained pills made to look like oxycodone but instead contained other controlled substances, including fentanyl. Le believed these pills would be redistributed in Iowa. He also sent cocaine, counterfeit Adderall pills containing methamphetamine, and LSD. Fortunately, these packages were intercepted by law enforcement, as they were being sent to an individual working with authorities. Over 5,900 counterfeit oxycodone pills were seized before they could be redistributed.

The DEA describes fentanyl as a potent synthetic opioid that is 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin.

Le was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand in Cedar Rapids. His sentence includes 87 months of imprisonment followed by a 4-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. Le is currently in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.
