    FRESNO, Calif. — A federal grand jury has indicted Jose Miguel Perez, 42, of Corona, on a single count of possessing with intent to distribute significant quantities of controlled substances. The U.S. Attorney, Phillip A. Talbert, announced the indictment, which highlights the seriousness of the charges against Perez.

    Court documents reveal that Perez was apprehended by law enforcement officers during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Fresno County. During the stop, deputies discovered a substantial cache of narcotics concealed within the vehicle. Specifically, 56 kilograms of various drugs were hidden in two secret compartments of the car.

    Among the confiscated substances were 7 kilograms of cocaine stashed in the ceiling and an additional 37 kilograms of cocaine, 10 kilograms of heroin, and 2 kilograms of ketamine found in a hidden compartment in the roof.

    The charges against Perez underscore the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to intercept and combat large-scale drug trafficking operations.
