Detroit Documenters Orientation
Saturday, Feb. 17 at 9:30 a.m.
This training will introduce you to the Detroit Documenters community. Find out how we help build the public record by paying people to attend local government meetings and take notes. Attendance at this workshop is required for Documenters to be eligible for paid assignments. Another training — Covering Your Local Government (highly recommended for all Documenters) — will immediately follow the orientation. Register for orientation separately.
Detroit Documenters Workshop — Covering Your Local Government
Saturday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m.
This interactive, one-hour training, which follows the Detroit Documenters orientation on the same Zoom link, will introduce you to local government in Detroit and how to monitor it for the public good. You’ll learn the basics of notetaking, open meeting law and how to hold officials accountable by documenting public government meetings. Upon completion of this workshop and a brief quiz, a badge will be added to your Documenters.org profile. We strongly recommend this training because public meetings are our most common assignment offering. Register separately for this workshop .
Detroit Documenters Workshop — Interviewing Skills
Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
Join Sarah Alvarez, Outlier’s founder and editor-in-chief, to learn tips and techniques for interviewing the public, including how to set up the interview and how to write up the interview when it ends. This skills training will prepare Documenters for special interview assignments. Learn more and register now .
