Outlier hires new enterprise editor

Outlier’s newsroom is evolving to incorporate even more accountability and investigative work to better meet Detroiters’ needs. To help us deliver on this goal, Sarah Hulett will join Outlier Media on April 1 as enterprise editor.

Hulett is a veteran reporter and editor, having come to Outlier from an 18-year career at Michigan Public (formerly Michigan Radio). She did everything there from being a Detroit-based beat reporter to editing long-form investigations like the “ Believed ” series, which won a Peabody Award, and  “ Nine days in a Michigan abortion clinic, as election looms ,” which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

Hulett will help plan, guide and edit Outlier’s investigative work. She will also contribute to editorial planning and editing the enterprise work of Outlier’s collaborative partner Planet Detroit .

Bringing Hulett onto the team will also allow Outlier’s Editor-in-Chief Sarah Alvarez more time to guide the current redesign of Outlier’s text message information product, TXT Outlier. TXT Outlier connects Detroiters directly to high-value information they need and gives all users the opportunity to connect directly with an Outlier reporter who can answer questions, find more information or investigate issues.
