Ready to release your inner shutterbug? Coaching Detroit Forward is accepting applications for its fifth annual summer photography camps . Camera equipment is provided and the camps are free, open to high school students either living or attending a school in Detroit.

Students at the beginners camp can get exposed to the basics and capture lessons from professionals like Vanity Fair visual editor Natalie Gialluca and freelance sports photographer Carl Jones II . At the advanced camp, photo geeks can focus in on deeper skills like studio lighting and photo editing. Both courses are taught by photographer Tiarra “Sacred” Overstreet-Amos .

“I’m a journalist, and I wish there were programs like these for me when I was in high school,” said Stephanie Steinberg , executive director of Coaching Detroit Forward. “We try to connect our students with opportunities as opposed to them trying to seek them out on their own … It’s a really nice way to help develop their talents.”

Students can purchase cameras at a discounted price at the end of the camp. Their photos will be published on the nonprofit’s website and in the award-winning , student-produced Perspectives Magazine . There are 14 spots available for each camp. Deadline to apply is May 3 .
