Happy Memorial Day weekend, Detroit! It’s Movement festival time , which means techno music heads from across the globe are descending upon the 313 for a full-on celebration of electronic music! So we guess we should also say, merry Techno Christmas!

The city is packed this week with ways to get movin’ — and to slow down. Check out a sound bowl meditation or an intriguing lecture at the Detroit Institute of Arts for Mental Health Awareness Month to find balance and take care of yourself. Action seekers can get straight to hustle dancing, cycling and sipping tequila in the sunshine. Whether you plan to dive into the mayhem or relax and recharge, we got you!

Oh yeah, and if Memorial Day weekend means getting your fill of red-white-and-blue floats and cotton candy, check out the parades in the suburbs. (None in the city, boo!)

    Let’s get busy! 💛

    Thursday

🚲 Explore the city with MoGo bikes in celebration of its 7th Birthday ! The ride begins and ends at Michigan Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Adventure Center on the Dequindre Cut. The celebration doubles as a fundraiser to ensure MoGo can continue to provide its bike share system as a transportation option for Detroiters. Ride your own wheels or rent a MoGo (options include adaptive MoGo bikes ) for the adventure. $10.

🪩 Get Moving for a Cause at the Eastside Community Network’s Hustle Your Way to Cancer Awareness, happening at The Stoudamire. Learn some smooth dance moves just in time for the weekend and how physical activity and cancer survivorship are connected. Free.

💃🏽 Work out your mojo in a House Dance Class at Andy Arts off Fenkell and Dexter avenues. Instructor Trishawna Woods will guide dancers through footwork, floor work and spins before ending the workshop in an open session so you can shake it all out. $15.

🎵 Celebrate Movement weekend at Fiesta House: El Movimiento , a three-day festival across three venues starting Thursday. DJs will serve up Latin house, baile funk, reggaeton and dembow. $15 on Thursday at TV Lounge, free on Friday at Garage Cultural, $25 on Saturday at El Club, $40 for a three-day pass.

    This weekend

🎄 Kick off Techno Christmas (aka Movement Music Festival) in ugly-sweater glory on Friday night. Sheefy McFly , Nick Speed , DJ Clent , and DJ Don Q will drop the beats all night at Old Miami in the Cass Corridor. $5 if you wear Christmas attire (please don’t actually wear a sweater in this weather 🥵), $10 for everyone else.

💅 Dolls, are you ready? Party with dance music’s best transgender and nonbinary DJs at Dolls Night at The High Drive in Hamtramck. The Friday late-night queer party boasts Chicago’s joyxci and New York’s Mayon with Cherriel and Ty-Jones repping the hometown on the decks. Only question now is, what are we going to wear?! 21+. $10 in advance, $15 at the door.

🎨 Speaking of festivals, indulge in Detroit art, music and poetry at The Potluck at Talking Dolls Studio starting Friday. Create some social justice zines, watch murals by Konstance Patton and Venusloc get made in real-time, and finish the three-day event with performances from artists like 14KT , Ruby Flwrs and Tall Black Guy . Free.

🪷 Spend Saturday with Graced to Grow Beyond Fear and the Women Empowerment Circle at The Women of Wellness Mental Health Fair on the eastside. Indulge in some wellness activities and mingle with local vendors. Kids are welcome. Registration required. Free.

🎛️ Dance like all of Detroit’s dancing with you at Hart Plaza for Movement Music Festival , which takes place Saturday through Monday across six stages. If that isn’t enough moving for you, get that bass in your face at Movement’s official pre-party and after-parties . All ages. $159 for a single day pass, $309 for three-day passes.

💖 Take a break from the music on Saturday at the fourth annual Ferndale Wellness Fair at the Boston Tea Room. Feast on yummy healthy food, take a yoga class with The Phoenix and Seasy’s Holistic Studio and Lounge, and relax with a breath-work workshop with Amber from the Boston Tea Room. Don’t forget to check out the vendors and practitioners from across the metro who’ll be there. Free.

🇺🇲 Honor fallen soldiers on Sunday in St. Clair Shores for its 68th Memorial Day Parade . Organizers say to expect more than 2,500 participants — including Miss America?! — and a dozen floats. Don’t forget your red, white and blue! Free.

🧘🏿‍♂️ Slow your roll on Sunday for Summer Sound Bowl Meditation at the Foundation Hotel. Practitioner Miss AJ Williams will guide you through a 45-minute relaxation session. Sounds like a nice way to recharge. $10.

☀️ Delight in the sunshine (fingers crossed) while you dance and sip on cocktails on Sunday at the Memorial Day Weekend Block Party . The three-venue event at The Annex features DJ Carter , Ocho , Marathon , DJ DJ and a big lineup of music makers will be bringing the beats all day. $20.
