    Juneteenth 2024 events and celebrations in Detroit

    Wednesday's Juneteenth holiday commemorates the day in 1865 when union troops arrived in Texas to announce that enslaved people were free.

    • Here are some ways to celebrate:

    ๐Ÿ“– Juneteenth on the Cut : The Dequindre Cut's celebration will highlight stories from the Black Bottom neighborhood through performances and other interactive activities for all ages.

    • Wednesday, 2-7pm, at the Campbell Terrace stage, near the Lafayette and St. Aubin entrance.
    • Free!

    ๐Ÿก Homeownership celebration : Detroit Future City's panel discussion and bus tour will focus on Black liberation and wealth generation through homeownership.

    • Tuesday, 10am-1:30pm, at the Industry Innovation Center, 461 Burroughs St.
    • Free!

    ๐Ÿ”‰ Juneteenth Music Festival : Live music, comedy, food and more in Boston Edison.

    • Wednesday, 5:30-10pm, at 2340 W. Chicago Blvd.
    • Tickets, $35.

    ๐Ÿ“ข Lunch counters and activism : City historian Jamon Jordan and others hold a panel discussion on the Southern lunch counters and picketing in the North that both factored into the 1960s Civil Rights Movement.
