Just when it looked like the Tigers were mounting a rally in Monday night's game against the Phillies, they ran into three outs at once.

With runners on the corners and none out in the third, Matt Vierling hit a soft liner back to pitcher Aaron Nola. Nola caught it for the first out, then threw to first to double off Carson Kelly. Zach McKinstry proceeded to sprint home from third, apparently thinking Nola had fielded the ball on a hop, and the Phillies threw across the diamond to complete the first triple play of the MLB season.

It's the first time the Tigers have been the victims of a triple play since August of 2017.

Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm completed the play for the Phillies after the duo had staked the club to a 4-0 lead in the first. Harper smoked a two-run double and Bohm ripped a two-run homer off Tigers starter Casey Mize.
