Hey Detroit! Get ready for another vibrant week of music, culture and community.

Whether you’re looking to showcase your family’s hidden karaoke talents, dive into some house music or experience an innovative night out, there’s something for everyone.

Pride Month is coming to a close, so celebrate in style at A Night at the Orfelia, a futuristic, queer-positive nightlife experience that transports you to 2054. Or enjoy a decadent six-course meal inspired by a beloved musician’s repertoire.

Remember Detroit, Nothing Compares 2 U. 😉 Make the most of your week!

    Thursday

🎤 Got a family car song you’ve been lip-syncing to? Maybe a shower song your kiddo’s been belting each night? Encourage your fam to shine in the spotlight at Family Karaoke Night at Spotlight Park on Linwood Street. Snacks will be provided. Free.

🥁 Get down to groovy beats and cool down from the heat with the Detroit Riddim Crew (DRC) at the historic Willis Show Bar in Midtown. A studio and backing band for Reggae, ska and dub artists in the D, the DRC will feature Joshua James on saxophone for two sets. 21+. $5 in advance. $8 day of show.

🎛️ Support up-and-coming local musicians at Foxglove Detroit’s Cultivate on Kenilworth Street. Community members are chosen from an online lottery to play their favorite tracks and learn how to mix records. Detroit-based and internationally known house DJ Stacey Hotwaxx Hale — the first female DJ in the city to play house music on the radio — will end the night and take the party out in style! Check it out this time and nominate yourself for the next one . ( Mister Joshooa and Father Dukes will be there in July.) Hands up for house music! Free.

    This weekend

🕊️ Explore community-based safety with a screening of “One Million Experiments” at the Love Building, Saturday afternoon. Join Damon Williams and Daniel Kisslinger — co-hosts of the Chicago-based podcast AirGo — for a screening, performance and interactive conversation about community “experiments” that create safety and reduce harm in a world without prisons and law enforcement. The event is part of the film crew’s national tour to explore these possibilities in different communities. Registration required. Masks required. Free.

📚 Looking to improve your listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills in English? Join All Saints Literacy Center for a bilingual adult story time at 27th Letter Books on Saturday. This event is part of a monthly series with dates set in July and August, too. Free.

📚 ¿Quieres mejorar tu inglés? Júntate con All Saints Literacy Center el sábado para una hora de cuentos bilingüe en 27th Letter Books. Este evento forma parte de una serie mensual , con fechas fijadas también en julio y agosto. Gratis.

🎤 For the less zen among us, spit some bars at The Fillmore for Detroit’s edition of Trap Karaoke , a rap-along concert series touring nationally. Daring concertgoers can get on stage and perform their go-to karaoke song. But if you’re less extroverted (like some of us at Outlier), you can hang back and look forward to the possibility that a special guest might join the party. 21+. $35+.

💜 Find out what it tastes like “When Doves Cry” on Sunday during a delightfully decadent six-course meal inspired by Prince’s album “Purple Rain.” Vinyl Tastings, a local team of sommeliers and chefs, will offer up culinary creations at the Detroit People’s Food Co-op. Sounds delicious! Registration required. $80 for food, $95 if you also want wine pairings.

🏳️‍🌈 Transport yourself to the totally queer-positive future of Detroit’s nightlife at A Night at the Orfelia , happening at Bert’s Warehouse in Eastern Market. Created by 28 artists from across the Midwest, the event features DJs Sapphyre , Ty-Jones , Auntie Chanel , Savannah G , Duck Trash , Cherriel and Ashton Swinton in an immersive nightclub experience. The highlights: DIY gender transitions, a dance floor (of course!) with Club Heaven’s legendary sound system , robot-building, a cyborg chill-out room and plenty of fabulous people. Mwah! 21+. $50.

    Next week

🇺🇲 Celebrate the Fourth of July with your kids just a tad early at the Detroit Public Library Wilder Branch on Wednesday. Create a Fourth of July-themed craft together and give your little one a fun opportunity to enjoy the company of other kids. How cute. Free.
