Pistons trading for Timberwolves' Wendell Moore to improve draft stock

Trajan Langdon has made his first trade in Detroit.

The Pistons are acquiring Wendell Moore and the No. 37 pick in this year's draft from the Timberwolves in exchange for the No. 53 pick, per The Athletic.

It amounts to a minor salary dump for Minnesota, who paid the Pistons in draft capital to take Moore's $2.5 million cap hit next season off their books.

A late first-round pick in 2022, Moore was a non-factor for the Timberwolves the last two seasons. The 6'5 shooting guard averaged just over four minutes per game and went 2-for-23 from three. He didn't score more than four points in a game last season.

Moore has a club option of $4.6 million in 2025-26, but it's unclear if he fits in the Pistons' long-term plans under Langdon, introduced last week as the club's president of basketball operations. Their plans do involve these sort of trades, as the Pistons entered the offseason with about $65 million in cap space, most in the NBA.

"One thing we are looking for with the cap space that we do have is bringing in contracts from other teams and gathering assets as well, and hopefully those players that come in can bolster the growth of our youth," Langdon said. "If we can interweave those two things, that would make our summer successful."
