A week after Trajan Langdon laid out his immediate plan for the Pistons, he executed it on Friday.

The Pistons have acquired shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. and three future second-round picks from the Mavericks in exchange for Quentin Grimes, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. The draft capital is the Pistons' reward for taking on Hardaway's contract, which has one year and $16.2 million remaining.

Detroit still has about $50 million of cap space ahead of free agency, one of the highest figures in the NBA.

"One thing we are looking for with the cap space that we do have is bringing in contracts from other teams and gathering assets as well, and hopefully those players that come in can bolster the growth of our youth," Langdon said at his introduction as the Pistons' president of basketball operations. "If we can interweave those two things, that would make our summer successful."

It appears the Pistons have satisfied both aims here. Hardaway, an 11-year vet, is a solid shooter who should give the team much-needed spacing around Cade Cunningham.

He played in 79 games last season on a Mavericks team that made the NBA Finals and averaged 14.4 points, third on the team behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. He also garnered consideration for the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year.

Hardaway, who comes to Detroit after five seasons in Dallas, is a career 36 percent shooter from three. A first-round pick in 2013 out of Michigan, where he starred on the Wolverines' national championship runner-up team under John Beilein, he turned 32 in March.

Regarding the draft picks, the Pistons will get a second-rounder in 2025 via the Raptors and two second-rounders in 2028, per Wojnarowski.
