A longtime Corktown live music spot, the UFO Factory closed permanently at the beginning of June only to come back better under new ownership. Turns out the business has changed hands and will be reopend as the UFO Bar by Roula David , owner of the crowd-favorite Spot Lite. This news was seen in Eater Detroit and WDET .

Located at 2110 Trumbull , UFO Factory had a successful run under the management of its original owners, Dion Fischer, Aliccia Bollig-Fischer, and Matthew Bihun. The bar was a popular destination for underground no wave, rock and punk shows, as well as queer-focused DJ nights, with a vegan Laika Dog menu.

According to WDET, incoming operator Roula David plans to develop the underground connection of the UFO Factory even further under the new UFO Bar brand. “I find that UFO is even deeper than the underground,” David told the station. “We want to preserve that as far as the DJ culture. We’re going to bring in a lot of bands — local and national opportunities that make sense.”

The menu will also be rebranded as Gladys Nite and overseen by chef Jessica Kindle . According to the Eater, Kindle will retain the hot dogs but “offer a bit of a different spin.” Kindle will continue to operate the Galdys Nite food truck outside Spot Lite as well.

The new UFO Bar is anticipated to open by the end of July. What Now Detroit reached out to David, but hadn’t heard back by the time of this coverage.
