Sunken ships, cannons, vehicles were hidden in Detroit River for years

It's hard to imagine what other treasures could be sitting at the bottom of the Detroit River when you consider the items that have already been pulled from it over the years.

A steamship, freighter, cannons, vehicles and massive anchors are just some of the larger items that have been surfaced. Then you have the guns, fountain statue, clay pipe, wagon wheel, bottles and a football national championship ring.

There's quite an array of stuff down there that's been exhumed from the past and brought back to modern day Detroit, almost as if through a time portal.

Over the years, we've tracked the objects divers and teams have found. Reporter Robert Allen, who worked for the Free Press in 2017, wrote an article that year about the history of the discoveries.

"For as long as this city has been around, people have been throwing stuff into the water," Sgt. Dean Rademaker with the Detroit Police Underwater Recovery Team told Allen at the time.

Take a look through the gallery above (or tap here) at some of the more interesting items that have been pullled from the river.
