The Detroit Pistons found their head coach for the 2024-25 season on Sunday, reaching a deal with former Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff on a five-year contract .

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the signing, and it was primarily met with applause, something Detroit hasn't heard in quite some time.

"Oh!" exclaimed "The Dunker Spot" co-host Steve Jones Jr. on social media.

"Euro stepping around the speculation at the end in Cleveland. He can coach, he can get buy in, that feels like steps 1 and 2 in Detroit. We’ll see if the movement carries over offensively but I imagine the focus/compete level goes up," Jones added.

Bickerstaff began his NBA coaching career as an assistant in Charlotte in 2004-05 and first received a head-coaching opportunity as interim coach for the Houston Rockets during the 2015-16 season.

He has a career record of 255-290, most recently going 170-159 with the Cavaliers. He took over mid-season in 2019-20 after former head coach John Beilein's disastrous tenure and held the position for four full seasons.

Bickerstaff did an excellent job turning around the franchise, leading it to the playoffs the past two seasons.

Bickerstaff was fired on May 23 after leading the Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference semifinals, where they lost in five games to the eventual champion Boston Celtics.

The Pistons are coming off a 14-68 season, the worst in franchise history. They last reached the postseason in 2018-19 and haven't won a playoff series since the 2008 playoffs.
