The Lions should be all in on Matthew Judon if the Patriots are truly looking to put him on the trade market, here's a proposal

New England Patriots edge rusher Matthew Judon is making a lot of news on Friday after a cryptic tweet about how he doesn't think the Patriots are about to pay him hit on the fourth of July.

The Patriots are a rebuilding team right now and while they have a ton of cap space, it is strange that they haven't worked out an extension with Judon yet. Now there's some thought that there could be a trade on the horizon. If that happens, the Detroit Lions need to be the first team on the phone.

The Lions have a decent defensive line right now with Aidan Hutchinson leading the way, but having Judon on the other side of the line makes this potentially one of the most dangerous defensive lines in the NFL immediately.

What would it take to get the deal done? Considering that Judon is turning 32-years-old in a few weeks and he's coming off a season where he only played four games, that's going to drive the cost down a bit. So don't think the Lions will have to offer anything crazy. Here's a proposal.

    Lions get: Matthew Judon
Patriots get: 2025 fourth-round and 2025 sixth-round (from Bucs) picks

That would put the Lions in a position where they are missing some mid rounds draft assets, but they navigated that same issue just fine this past April. The Patriots get some future assets and the ability to save even more money for the future.

The Lions would have to sign Judon to an extension, but don't look for that to be a massive deal like some of the guys in free agency just got this past March.

Look for Judon to get something like what Cameron Jordan got last year when the Saints signed him to a two year extension worth $27.5 million. The Lions could absolutely afford to make that deal and still have plenty of money left over to take care of Aidan Hutchinson and everyone else that needs a deal.

Judon is from the area, so he may be wanting to come back home. He grew up in Pontiac and played his high school ball at West Bloomfield before heading to Grand Valley State in Allendale. The Ravens took him in the fifth-round of the 2016 NFL Draft and he's been a four time Pro Bowler since coming into the league.

If the Patriots do wind up moving him, his accolades are going to bring a lot of suitors. The Lions should be one of them. This is a Super Bowl winning type acquisition that helps the Lions defense tremendously.
