DDP wants resident feedback on I-75 cap plan

Officials want your feedback to help shape a plan to cap a section of I-75 to join downtown and Midtown.

The intrigue: The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP), which is co-leading the planning initiative with the city of Detroit and the Michigan Department of Transportation, is asking residents for their opinions on capping a large section of I-75.

State of play: The area of I-75 being studied for a potential cap extends from 3rd Avenue on the west to Brush Street on the east.

    • The DDP says a cap would enhance mobility and provide environmental benefits, as well as add public space that would serve as an anchor for future development.
    • A grant worth $2 million from the federal Transportation Department and another $1.9 million awarded to the city will support the project, the DDP announced in March.
