‘Come At Me, Bro’: Joy Reid Gushes Over Biden’s Defiant Speech

MSNBC’s Joy Reid hailed President Joe Biden’s speech in Detroit on Friday, calling it his “Come at me, bro” moment.
Biden is facing concerns about his ability to defeat former President Donald Trump in November and to serve another four years. In late June, he turned in a terrible debate performance against Trump and repeatedly lost his train of thought. Interviews he did after the debate did not help his cause, and more than a dozen congressional Democrats have called on him to drop his reelection bid, though the vast majority of Democratic lawmakers have not done so publicly. Actor and Democratic donor George Clooney wrote a widely publicized op-ed in the New York Times saying the president should make way for another nominee.
The president gave an energetic and defiant address in Michigan on Friday, telling the crowd, “I’m not going anywhere.” He also hammered Trump over the former president’s legal issues, which include being found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records, and being found civilly liable for sexual assault, defamation, and fraud in separate cases.
After Biden’s speech, Reid praised the addressed for laying out a vision for what he intends to do in a second term.
“This was well done,” she said. “I can’t say anything other than that’s the Joe Biden who I think Democrats who might be nervous needed to see. And for Democrats who doubted him, that was the ‘Come at me, bro Joe Biden. He ain’t going nowhere.”
“We’ll see,” said Chris Hayes . “The future remains unwritten. I think he is dead-set on not going anywhere. He was, to me, that was also the most comprehensive thesis of the campaign since the State of the Union.
Hayes went on to laud Biden for laying out the case for reelection using “three pillars.”
“[Trump]’s a menace, here’s what we’ve done, here’s what we are going to do,” he said, summing them up. ‘Here’s what our shared values are. That is a comprehensive 30 minutes. That’s the campaign.”
