Lions head coach Dan Campbell is a proud native Texan. Campbell tapped into his Texas roots by rejoining a Dallas radio station for a segment on a show that he used to do a weekly appearance with during his playing days.

He’s come a long way from being the Cowboys backup tight end 20 years ago. In the segment with “The Hardline” on The Ticket in Dallas, Campbell focused on his Lions coaching career and challenges. One of the focal points was how the city of Detroit has embraced Campbell and the resurgent Lions team.

“I remember that all the things we’re kind of stepping into now in the last couple of years here,” Campbell said, referencing the postseason success and heightened expectations, “It was — that was my vision for what it could always be here. The hottest show in town.”

Campbell talked about just how special the Detroit fans are. He brought up the wild card game against the Los Angeles Rams, the first NFL postseason game Ford Field has ever hosted.

“Our wild card game the first week of the playoffs here at home against the Rams here at home, that’s the most electric game I’ve ever been a part of,” Campbell enthused. “The energy was through the roof.”

    Coach Campbell noted,

“I’ve never been to a place where a good hour before the game, it’s packed. Like, every a** is in their seat! I could not believe it.”

The full Campbell segment is available from the station’s podcast archive here.
