Detroit PBS has appointed two additional members to its board of trustees — Priscilla Perkins and Dr. Felix Valbuena.

The new board members bring years of experience and leadership to advance Detroit PBS’ mission and transition back to Detroit. They join the ranks of Detroit PBS trustees to provide leadership, oversight and meaningful counsel.

“We are pleased to welcome these committed and community-minded individuals to the board at Detroit PBS,” says Rich Homberg, president and CEO of Detroit PBS. “Their diverse expertise and proven track records of resolute leadership will bring fresh insight to our work as we continue to navigate an ever-changing media landscape and as our board drives the organization to imagine the possibilities involving the community.”

Perkins serves as president and CEO of the Detroit’s long-standing Accounting Aid Society, leading a team of 50-plus professionals and hundreds of volunteers who help individuals and businesses get control of their finances and their futures.

She is also a certified fundraising executive with more than 18 years of fundraising experience for nonprofit organizations. She has served as senior director of development for the Beaumont Health Foundation, chief development officer for Lighthouse and Detroit project leader of Achieving Women Enterprise. She currently serves on the Leadership Giving Committee of the United Way of Southeast Michigan and is a member and treasurer of the Greater Wayne County (MI) Chapter of Links, Incorporated.

Valbuena is a family physician and CEO at Community Health and Social Services Center, commonly referred to as CHASS. He is also part of the academic faculty in the Department of Family Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital.

He is an active supporter of Federally Qualified Health Centers, currently serving as a clinician representative on the National Association of Community Health Centers board of directors and a board member of the Michigan Primary Care Association and A.T. Still University of Health Sciences.

Throughout the pandemic, Valbuena supported PCR testing and Health Center Vaccine Program clinics on-site and in the community. He serves on the Michigan Community Engagement Alliance Steering Committee, amplifying the voice of community members and frontline providers to help increase vaccine acceptance.
