Seahawks have a chance to spoil Calvin Johnson’s big night with the Lions

One of the toughest matchups for the Seahawks this coming season will be a Week 4 matchup with the Lions on Monday Night Football. By rights Detroit should be heavily favored to win ( they are ) this particular game. However, any Lions fan could tell you that the race doesn't always go to the swiftest or the maiden to the most noble knight. In addition to their general heartbreaking history since the late 50s, Detroit has had precious little success against Seattle, going just 5-13 against them all-time.

It's been particularly lopsided in recent years, too. Going back to the 20023 season, the Seahawks have won nine of their last 10 games against the Lions, including two straight victories the last two years in Detroit.

The Lions will be playing at home again in this round, and they'll have some extra motivation thanks to a special ceremony. At halftime the team will be inducting Hall of Fame wide receiver Calvin Johnson into their Pride of the Lions.

The last time Detroit beat Seattle was in the 2012 season. While the Legion of Boom managed to keep Megatron in check with just three catches and 46 yards, Matt Stafford did enough to secure a 28-24 win for the Lions, posting 352 passing yards, three touchdowns and a 101.7 passer rating.

Much more relevant are the last two matchups between these teams, both of which turned into shootouts. The Seahawks came out on top 48-45 in the 2022 meeting and again by a score of 37-31 in overtime last season.
