Country singer Ingrid Andress, who was born in Southfield, sang the national anthem before MLB’s Home Run Derby Monday night in Arlington, Texas. Her rendition was quickly panned as one of the worst in recent memory, lighting up social media and talk shows.

There were several moments during the performance when Andress slipped off key or off time. Now, we have an idea of why.

“I’m not gonna bulls— y’all, I was drunk last night,” Andress posted on social media on Tuesday afternoon. “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”

Andress was born and spent some time in Michigan while her father, Brad Andress, served as a strength and conditioning coach for the Detroit Tigers. Brad Andress also worked with the Colorado Rockies, the New York Mets and the University of Michigan.

Ingrid Andress got her start in music as a songwriter in Nashville before eventually signing her own recording contract in 2019. She has released two albums and had recently teased a new single that was set to come out soon.

Andress has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Country Song and Best Country Album in 2021.

She admits that her performance on Monday was embarrassing.

“That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition,” Andress wrote.
