    Saving the paper

    This story resonated with me because it shows the power of what one person can do.

    Meet Barb Ireland, a Michigan retiree who bought her historic hometown newspaper, the Hudson Post-Gazette, and became its only reporter despite not knowing anything about journalism. She didn't go to school for journalism and wasn't even an avid news reader going into it.

    But the Post-Gazette, which has been around since 1858, lost its owner when he died six years ago, and it was on the verge of folding.

    “I didn’t want it to close,” the 72-year-old said.
