NFL Analyst suggests the Lions should trade a day 2 pick and more for All Pro defensive lineman, suggests two other trade options

Trade season is still very much upon us. It may actually never leave. Early in the week there was talk about the Detroit Lions being one of the teams that could trade for 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk and then sports betting outlets have the Lions as one of the favorites to land Patriots edge rusher Matthew Judon.

Today Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox put together a trade block board full of players that could be moved at some point this season and he has three different players landing in Detroit. All of them are interesting, but only one makes sense at this time.

The first is Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward. He's suggesting the trade value there is a 2025 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick.

This one doesn't make any sense for various reasons. A second-round pick is just way too much for a 36-year-old player. Even if he is still pretty good. The other thing is that the Lions don't need a defensive tackle right now. They have Alim McNeil and they just signed DJ Reader. Plus Mehki Wingo and Brodric Martin are coming off the bench. They're all set there.

The next suggestion is that the Lions trade a 2025 third-round pick to the Jets for edge rusher Hassan Reddick. This is a good fit, but the big problem here is that the Jets already have the Lions 2025 third-round pick. Detroit traded it there so they could move up for Sione Vaki in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Reddick just got to the Jets. It would be strange if they shopped him this year. If they did, the Lions would be an interesting landing spot, but a third would be too much for anyone to pay for Reddick right now.

The final trade actually makes a ton of sense and we named him in this very article. It's Matthew Judon. Knox suggests a 2025 conditional third-round pick goes to the Patriots to get him. That's a bit too high, plus the Lions don't have that third-round pick.

We suggested that Detroit send over a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick to get the Pontiac native back home to Michigan. He's also the most affordable option of all these guys.
